why we built UNCAT

“I like this better.”

— A client of one our customers

We built Uncat to scratch our own itch – to save ourselves time and make life easier for our clients. We got tired of exporting spreadsheets of uncategorized expenses, chasing clients for information, and manually entering client responses into QuickBooks Online.

We started coding and showed an early version of Uncat to accountants and bookkeepers at QuickBooks Connect conferences in San Jose and Toronto in 2019. The application still needed a lot of work and polish, but the feedback was consistently enthusiastic. Uncat could help a lot of people – accountants, bookkeepers, clients – save a lot of time.

We added dozens of features based on feedback from our early users. We passed Intuit’s technical and security reviews and launched Uncat on the QuickBooks App Store in 2020. Today, we get to work with modern accounting firms and bookkeeping professionals and their clients to resolve uncategorized expenses.

A highlight of building Uncat is receiving kudos from the people we serve. One of our favorite testimonials is from an email that a client sent to their accountant who then forwarded the email to us. It reads simply, “I like this better.” You can read (and write) reviews on the QuickBooks App Store and G2. Here are a few recent reviews.

As a growing startup, we like to give back whenever we can. We were able to make a gift to the Young-Williams Animal Center in our hometown when we won the Crowd Favorite prize at Startup Day in Knoxville.
