What is QuickBooks Spreadsheet Sync?

According to QuickBooks Support:

Spreadsheet Sync lets you sync Excel to your QuickBooks Online Advanced account so you can:

  • Pull data into an Excel spreadsheet, edit it, and then post back to QuickBooks Online Advanced.

  • Create new data to post to QuickBooks Online Advanced using Spreadsheet Sync’s list templates.

  • Create custom reports and refresh them with up-to-date QuickBooks Online Advanced data.

How does it work?

Intuit has posted a two helpful video tutorials to YouTube. The first video covers How to Install and use spreadsheet sync in QuickBooks Online Advanced.

The second video explains How to use the features of spreadsheet sync in QuickBooks Online Advanced.

More information on how it works and how to buy is available on the QuickBooks Online Advanced Spreadsheet Sync product page.

How does it compare to Uncat?

Apples and oranges.

First, Uncat works with any version of QuickBooks Online (not just Advanced) as well as with QuickBooks Desktop and Xero.

Second, Uncat is easy to use. You can set up Uncat for your clients in a few minutes. Your clients will get automatic reminders by email (and optionally by text message) and all they have to do is click a Magic Link to go straight into Uncat. By contrast, it takes a lot longer to figure out spreadsheet sync, and there aren’t automatic client reminders.

Third, Uncat is purpose-built to help accountants and bookkeepers get information back from their clients about uncategorized transactions 10x faster than a spreadsheet. It has a clean intuitive interface for clients and accounting professionals alike. Meanwhile, making updates in spreadsheet sync isn’t very approachable for all but the most savvy clients.

Overall, spreadsheet sync is great for pulling data and reports into Excel so that you can build pivot tables and charts. But when it comes to fixing uncategorized transactions with your clients, Uncat is the cat’s meow.
