The Goldilocks Principle: Choosing software that’s just right

We heard consistent feedback at conferences this summer that customers like Uncat because it’s focused on getting client responses back 10x faster than the old way (i.e. a spreadsheet of uncategorized transactions).

Not too little

Of course, there are other ways to get information back from clients. You can manually export spreadsheets and email your clients. You can schedule meetings with clients to go line by line through transactions. Or there is other software out there with uncategorized transaction features. Generally, the problem with these approaches, including the other software, is that they don’t adequately address the problem of uncategorized transactions. Meanwhile, Uncat is laser-focused on building the features you want and need to save time with your clients every month. For example, you can assign a payment account to a specific client user (e.g. assign transactions from Amex-1234 to Mike). You can sync transactions missing a Class or a Receipt or some other key field into Uncat so you can get that information from your client. You can split expenses. You get the idea. We’ve listened to our customers the past 3 years and built the features you want so that it’s a robust solution to the problem of uncategorized transactions.

Not too much

Ironically, some of the same software applications that don’t do enough for uncategorized transactions often have dozens of other features for accountants and bookkeepers. Unfortunately, these solutions offer breadth but not depth. The software is complicated for users (accountants and clients alike) and doesn’t do any one thing particularly well. By contrast, our goal is to be the best at helping you resolve uncategorized transactions with your clients and not try to do everything else. There are great practice management apps out there. And great reporting apps. And great apps for just about every part of running a successful firm. We believe in a best-of-breed approach when it comes to choosing the software to help you run your practice. Keep the feedback coming our way, and we’ll stay focused on making Uncat easy to use so you and your clients save a ton of time. We hope that you’ll find Uncat to be just right.
